5 Social Media Tips to Take Your Brand to the Next Level

The term ‘personal branding’ sounds wonderful to the ears because building a personal brand means gaining trust, increasing perceived value and looking 100% authentic. But if you’re anything like me, you may find the idea of personal branding a bit overwhelming.

That is not to say personal branding is less important. What I mean to say is that most people kind of get stuck when it comes to building their personal brand or online reputation – just as I do. Fine-tuning and improving your personal brand doesn’t have to be complicated – particularly if you are prepared to use social media to your benefits.

Here are five simple tips that you can use to take your personal brand to the next level – without investing lots of money or time.

1. Update Your Photos

When did you last change your Twitter profile picture? Is your LinkedIn photo still the one you uploaded when signing up?

Switching over your social profile photos is an excellent way of giving your pages a new lease of life, with minimal effort. Even if your existing profile images are worth keeping, adding fresh headshots lends a brand new look to your accounts.

2. Rewrite Profile Bios

Every social media platform allows you to add a little blurb, which is about what you do or who you work with. You can also include a link to your blog or website in that section.

But, when was the last time you updated it?

Since social media bios are just a couple of words, it doesn’t take much time to rewrite or update them. Give your accounts a new makeover by writing new bios. Include new work experiences and skills. If you’re employed in an organization, tag it. Even though a bio is short, it speaks volumes about you.

3. Exhibit Your Recent Projects

Just saying what you can do is one thing, showing what you have done is quite another. People have a keen interest in taking a look at your recent work. Feel free to let the world see it.

Enrich your portfolio section on LinkedIn. Share your recent projects on Facebook and Twitter.

4. Share Other People’s Content

You don’t build a reputation by sharing just your own work.

If you want to improve your personal brand, you shouldn’t hesitate to share interesting pieces of content from other industry professionals and experts, who are not your direct competitors.

You may choose to share someone’s blog post, video or infographic. Just make sure it is worthful and relevant to the niche or industry you operate in. People will appreciate the varying types of content.

5. Tweet to Someone You Learn From

Social media is a powerful tool for building connections – provided you make the time to get in touch with people.

Is there a thought leader, a skilled professional or an author who you think highly of or who you often learn from? Send a tweet (a word of praise) telling them how much admiration you have for their work. Let them know how you used one of their practical tips to improve. This is a great way to forge genuine connections in a friendly environment with influencers in your industry.

In the same way, as you build your company’s brand, you should pay attention to building your own personal brand. Your personal brand doesn’t only help you on a personal level, but it can also solidify the presence of the company you work for. If you can find the time to work in these five simple tips, you’ll see immediate improvements to your personal brand.
