When I was younger, I used to look down on people who seemed obsessed with process. I thought that rigid adherence to a set of rules stifled creativity and led to bland results. I hated being told what to do or being held to a pre-set standard. After all, I was smart, driven, and creative. How dare anyone else tell me how to do something? And then I became a business owner. I find myself prefacing so much with those seven words these days. As soon as I found myself needing to produce results rather than provide an opinion, my views on the role and value of process inside of an organization changed overnight……………
